No, this was NOT voted the UK's most ludicrous law but third most. There's some amusing stuff in the above link, but I must protest about the validity of this so-called poll. The participants were obviously not shown the text of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.

Then again, this one doesn't make much more sense:
"With the attempt to pervert the course of public justice did a series of acts which had a tendency to pervert the course of public justice in that you arranged with the victim and the defendants in that the victim doesn't attend court"

Huh, sounds like my divorce lawyer 20 odd years ago.
Seems reasonable to me. After all these years, I still remember what my lawyer said. "Don't worry mate, she won't get away with it, if the 'The Fuzz' don't get 'em on one thing, they'll keep at it until they find something"
I scratched my noggin' and pointed out it was civil. "Ahah" he said. "That's as much as you know".
He was right y'know.
My condolences to a certain Mr. Docherty, who in the case you quote, was idiot enough to stick his nose (sniff) around the courtroom door to say hello.

It could be regarded an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the British king or queen's image upside-down.
I quite agree with that, actually.
It's just a pity that signing away Britain's sovereignty to a hostile foreign power apparently isn't treason any more.

I'm just trying to imagine my custody sergeant's face on Christmas day when he tells me I should be looking for a substantive offence to arrest for at a domestic instead of a breach of the peace. "Well sarge, I did see him eating a mince pie as I entered so I arrested him for that instead". why do I suspect i won't be able to find the charge code for that!!

My favourite recent legislation is the SIA - or Security Industry Authority - recently set up to ensure security guards and "doorstaff" are of sound character.
Whilst they do detailed pnc and police checks on applicants, they have omitted to check Immigration status!
So we have illegals working for Police forces up and down the country, at ports and airports, and even guarding GBs jaguar. Who knows how many fo these are terrorist sleepers.....
Whilst I admit I have the benefit of hindsight in this criticism of the Home Office, you would think with all their committees, researchers, focus groups and "consultants" - they would have considered doing a IND check on applicants !!
These people tell us how we should be doing our job !!!

Until the Queensland laws were changed in 1992, I was guilty for many years of failing to provide "stabling and straw" for a "minimum of six horses".

I think you'll find that they aren't even doing the PNC. I know of one chap, with a long history of D&D and substance arrests, who moves from one 'security' job to another, ranging from Family Court to insurance companies.
All, of course, use private security companies.
